Manufacturer: Carr China Company
User: Asbury (unknown customer)
Date of plate: 1948
Notes: An unknown customer, one possibility is that this plate was made for an Asbury church. There are several in West Virginia, and Asbury is a common name for Methodist churches. Francis Asbury was one of the first two bishops of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States. According to the Wikipedia entry, he "spread Methodism in British colonial America as part of the Second Great Awakening."
Editor's note: This entry comes from the Carr China website whose content has been transferred to the IDwiki. An effort was made on that site to capture as many examples produced by Carr as possible, and for that reason they might include more mystery patterns and topmarked pieces, or those that might not ordinarily be thought of strictly speaking as restaurant ware.
