Notes: From a story in The Times of Hammond, Indiana, dated March 30, 1937, Peter and Agnes Brahos opened their newly relocated restaurant and coffee shop at 5239 Hohman Avenue. The article states: "The new restaurant is air-conditioned and is the only down-town restaurant in Hammond with this modern appointment."
Brahos had been in the restaurant business in Hammond since 1914, when he opened the Hammond Cafe. In 1918, he and his wife opened their original Brahos Coffee Shop at 576 Hohman Street next to the Parthenon theater. "They later sold the business to Nick Brahos, brother of Mr. Brahos, and bought the business back in 1927."
By 1963, the restaurant had been sold and was then known as Payne's Restaurant.
There was also a Brahos Sweet Shop in Hammond, Indiana, on Hohman Avenue opened by another member of the Brahos family, but it did not open until June 1947.
Ivory body bowl with a burgundy red stripe below the verge and the restaurant's logo above the stripe. The logo consists of the word "Brahos" in a red script font stacked over the words "Hammond, Ind." in red block letters. These stacked words are surrounded by a red laurel wreath.
