Manufacturer: Carr China Company
Pattern: Bobby Set
Date of examples: circa 1934 – 1937
Notes: We purchased these two plates and fruit bowl as a charming set with no clue for whom they were made. We assumed it was intended as a baby gift, and can tell from the backstamp it was designed by Paul Mattson, the Carr designer in the late Thirties. When looked at closely, there is a slight difference between the script on the two names, leaving us to think they were hand lettered. Mattson did not have a son named Robert or Bobby (that we know of). It is quite a handsome set with the white band between the two black lines on the Glo-Tan clay body.
Editor's note: This entry comes from the Carr China website whose content has been transferred to the IDwiki. An effort was made on that site to capture as many examples produced by Carr as possible, and for that reason they might include more mystery patterns and topmarked pieces, or those that might not ordinarily be thought of strictly speaking as restaurant ware.
