Manufacturer: Carr China Company
Pattern: Training Shapes
Date of examples: circa 1930s
Notes: It has been said that these shapes were made by Wheeler Carr Bachman's mother for him in anticipation of his employment at Carr China after he finished college.
The pieces shown are:
No. 86 – Celery Tray, Oval, Scalloped Edge, Trade Size No. 3.
No. 6 – Baker (Oval) Rolled Edge, 4 inch (Trade Size); actual size 6 1/2 in.; and
No. 238 – Pickle (Oblong).
The interesting thing about the oblong pickle is that the bottom of the piece has a center area under the backstamp that looks like the clay was scraped and unglazed and that the backstamp didn't take well.
Editor's note: This entry comes from the Carr China website whose content has been transferred to the IDwiki. An effort was made on that site to capture as many examples produced by Carr as possible, and for that reason they might include more mystery patterns and topmarked pieces, or those that might not ordinarily be thought of strictly speaking as restaurant ware.
