Manufacturer: Carr China Company
Pattern: Carr Mystery Pattern 4
Date of plate: circa late 1930s
Notes: No clue as to this pattern. It is shown on Glo-Tan China and the backstamp style matches that of a plate owned by designer Paul Mattson's daughter. This is not Mattson's beautiful printing, but it indicates the plate probably dates to the late 1930s.
The 44 in the backstamp refers to the color Cloister Brown. We don't know if the P33 refers to an additional color (if the narrower lines of the pattern are actually a lighter brown) or if it refers to a pattern designation within the factory.
Editor's note: This entry comes from the Carr China website whose content has been transferred to the IDwiki. An effort was made on that site to capture as many examples produced by Carr as possible, and for that reason they might include more mystery patterns and topmarked pieces, or those that might not ordinarily be thought of strictly speaking as restaurant ware.
