Manufacturer: Maddock Pottery
Name of user: Cat'n Fiddle Confectionery & Tea Room – Portland, Oregon
Date of examples: circa 1912 – 1921
Notes: The earliest known advertisement for the Cat'n Fiddle Restaurant at 145 Broadway was in the Aug. 9, 1912, issue of the Portland Morning Oregonian. It was for a 35¢ a la Pullman noon luncheon.
The restaurant was arranged with a soda fountain on the left and candy counters on the right as customers entered the restaurant. Table service dining was in the rear, with a stairway leading to a balcony dining area.
On Sept. 24,1921, the Cat'n Fiddle closed because the lease was taken over by the Sweet Sixteen Company. The restaurant equipment and furniture were offered for sale in a Sept. 4, advertisement.
The restaurant's Maddock Lamberton China is crested with a decal illustration of a cat that is standing on its rear legs and playing a bass fiddle. This logo was used on lampshades on the soda fountain front counter and on a large neon sign above the exterior entrance. #8001 Nueces decal ornaments are spaced around the rim and connected by a pin line.
