Notes: Syracuse pattern P-79 consists of a stagecoach, horses, inn and passengers executed in four different variations. Syracuse pattern P-78 (not shown) has a black line with trees in the foreground and clouds in the background.
The name originated because of one variation's use by the Hotel Roanoke, which was owned by the Norfolk and Western Railway (see link below). The name would have originated with authors of books on railroad dining car china – not with Syracuse China. Only the version with the custom black border was used by the hotel.
