Manufacturer: Shenango China
User: Dutro's
Date of grill plate: 1920s – early 1950s
Notes: Dutro's restaurant was located at 828 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, Minn., known to be in operation at least through 1953.
It was famous for seafood, and its best known dish, Lobster Thermidor, was featured in the book, "Minnesota Eats Out – An Illustrated History."
In his 1948 book, "I Recommend," Roland L. Hill wrote this about Dutro's: "Dinner for, or is it of, eight service is an innovation here. You will enjoy a crustacean debauch here, served under the personal supervision of Earl Dutro himself. Open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. A favorite Friday spot and patronized much by the Catholic Clergy. Closed on Sunday."
