Notes: Located at 160 Central Park West in New York City, this 42-story, 1286-room deco hotel opened its doors October 1931. The famous Essex House sign was built in 1942 and has not been lighted since 1945. The hotel was purchased by Nikko Hotels and in 1990 underwent a $75 million renovation. In 2005, it was purchased by the Arab Consortium Jumeirah and the hotel is now a six-star hotel with 515 rooms/suites and 149 condos. (As of this 2020 update, the hotel seems to be JW Marriott Essex House New York.)
