Notes: Little has been found about the Fourteenth Street Lunch – located in Washington, D.C. – except for a handful of mentions ranging from 1904 to 1917 that included help wanted listings in the Washington Times (1917) and Washington Post (1916); a variety of violations for the sale of liquor to minors (1913-1917); and a notice in the Washington Herald in 1915 that advertised: "Sargeant's Fourteenth Street Lunch, opposite New Willard Hotel. Wholesome, tasty meals; quick, polite service; clean. Oysters any style. Prices right. Try it." And another from the Washington Herald, also in 1915: "Sargeant's 14th St. Lunch, Opp. New Willard Hotel. Decrease the high cost of living. The finest eating in the city at lowest prices. You can't beat it."
The design in dark green simply has the words Fourteenth St Lunch in a funky italic font with lots of swashes.
