Notes: Gasner's Restaurant opened in 1913, A story in the July 26, 1973, New York Times interviewed its owner, Jack Gasner, as the restaurant's contents were up for auction. "In its heyday," he said, "the clientele included, according to the proprietor, every mayor from Fiorello H. La Guardia to John V. Lindsay and every Governor from Herbert H. Lehman to Nelson A. Rockefeller."

From the Times story, the restaurant was founded by Max Gasner "in a tiny niche near the Williamsburg Bridge." There followed moves to Brooklyn, Rochester, Washington Heights, and finally to its last location at 76 Duane Street on Foley Square in Lower Manhattan (and where this cup would have been used).
