Notes: According to the Gopher Bar website, Greek immigrant Andrew Kappas opened the Gopher Cafe in St. Paul, Minn., in 1931 at 82 W. 7th St. When Prohibition was repealed, he began serving alcohol and changed the name to the Gopher Bar.

The current owner (in a different location) is Kappas' eldest son, George.

George Kappas died in November, 2022, at 75, and it appears that the Gopher Bar is now closed.

Distributor for this plate was Restaurant China Co., in St. Paul, Minn. The gopher is Minnesota's state animal.
