Manufacturer: Maddock Pottery
User: Harrisonia Hotel – Lowell, Massachusetts
Distributor: Mitchell Woodbury Company
Date of examples: circa 1915-1923
Notes: The Harrisonia Hotel, at 17-21 Central Street in Lowell, Massachusetts, was built around 1915. An illustration in the 1917 Hotel Red Book shows it as a seven-story building. A 1919 postcard mentions a "Rathskeller, Dutch Room and handsome dining rooms." Another postcard shows a bar, which may have been the "Rathskeller."
By 1923, the name had been changed to Cole's Inn. An undated postcard shows Cole's as a five-story building, so it may have never been taller than five-stories. In 2020, this incredible shrinking building was only two-stories. But the original second floor windows, which were probably part of the Harrisonia dining room, remain.
Maddock made the Harrisonia Hotel china service that is crested with a multi-color decal featuring a Native American chief. The blue decal border is Maddock border #6096. Mitchell Woodbury Company was the distributor.
