Notes: The Hi-Hat Barbecue was located at 572 Columbus Avenue in the South End of Boston on the corner of Columbus Avenue and Massachusetts Avenue. The restaurant and lounge were downstairs and its famous music was upstairs. The Hi-Hat started out playing Big Band music, but eventually became world famous for its Jazz entertainment from the 1930s through the 1950s. Just a few of the famous jazz performers were Sarah Vaughn, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie. Many of the jazz greats also recorded there. Sid "Symhony" Torin broadcasted his 1940s Jazz shows from the Hi-Hat. Many of the famous jazz recordings from the Hi-Hat are still extremely popular today. The Hi-Hat closed due to fire in 1959.
