User: InterContinental Hotels – Hotel Ivoire – Abidjan
Date of ashtray: pre-1980s
Notes: The InterContinental Hotel Ivoire was built while Cote d'Ivoire was a French colony. It was known as the jewel of Abidjan's hotels, during the time that Abidjan was the capitol city and referred to as the 'Paris of Africa.' It remains a large complex including ice-skating rink, swimming pool and theater, among other attractions, although traveler reports indicate that since the civil unrest from the early 2000s have left it in a state of neglect.
