Manufacturer: Maddock Pottery
User: Hotel Jerome – Columbia, South Carolina
Date of examples: circa 1905-1924
Notes: The four-story, 90-room Hotel Jerome, was located on the corner of Main and Lady Streets in Columbia, South Carolina. It opened November 8, 1903, replacing an older Jerome Hotel that was built in 1887, and burned in 1900. The Jerome operated on both the American and European plan, so guests could choose to have their meal costs included in the price of their room. It was last listed in the 1959 Hotel Red Book. The Jerome was torn down in 1960 and replaced by a Downtowner Motor Inn.
Maddock produced Lamberton china crested with "Hotel" above "Jerome", with both words on an upward angle. The flanking transfer border of cotton blossoms is shown in the Maddock pattern sample book as #127 border.
