Notes: One of the finest of the boom era hotels in St. Petersburg, FL, this 100-room Mediterranean Revival style structure opened in 1925. It boasted an 18-hole golf course with the first tee at the front door, sailing, riding, fishing, tennis, trapshooting, aviation, and music and dancing. With the outbreak of WWII, the Jungle Country Club Hotel became housing for Army Air Corps trainees, both in the hotel and in tents on the grounds. With the end of hostilities in 1945, the Admiral Farragut Academy of Pine Beach, NJ, a Naval Honor School, acquired the hotel for use as a Florida campus.
