Manufacturer: Shenango China
User: Maxwell's by the Sea – Huntington Beach, California
Date of plate: circa 1990's
Notes: According to The Lost Landmarks, Maxwell's by the Sea opened in 1976, replacing The Fisherman and becoming "an iconic favorite with the locals and tourists alike."
A Los Angeles Times story from late 1994, noted that a recent inspection with an estimate of more than $1 million in repairs would force the restaurant to close on Jan. 7, 1995.
The softly octagonal plate is a deep burgundy (#22 Crimson) with an Art Deco logo of stylized man and woman resting against a horizontal line, underneath which is MAXWELL'S, all in coin gold decoration.
