Notes: The Hotel Medford, located at 406 West Main Street in Medford, Oregon, was constructed in 1910 and opened Sept. 19, 1911. Originally built as a five-story U-shaped building, a sixth floor was added in the mid-1920s. The hotel had both a restaurant and a coffee shop.
According to Wikipedia: "The Medford Hotel was a historic building in Medford, Oregon, United States. The hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 but was severely damaged by a fire in the same year during a renovation. The building has since been remodeled and serves as an apartment complex." It is now known as the New Medford.
A story about the hotel's closing in The Oregonian dated January 1, 1987 (shown above) has an interesting memory by Dan Marmo, one of the last managers, in which he recalls being invited to presidential candidate John F. Kennedy's suite to thank him for having placed additional furniture there.
"I knocked on the door, and this wonderful Boston accent invited me in," Marmo recalled. "I came in, and there was Jackie Kennedy sitting in a chair and Kennedy himself wearing only his shorts. Well, I was embarrassed as all get out: but very calmly he said, 'It's OK, Mr. Marmo, my wife has seen me in my shorts many times.'"
White body plate with a pale green stripe outlined by two darker green pinstripes around the outer rim. There is another green pinstripe beneath these stripes and a green pinstripe at the top of the verge. At the top of the plate is the logo consisting of a pear with two green leaves encircled by a light green band with the word "Hotel" at the top and "Medford" at the bottom.
