Manufacturer: Carr China Company
User: Moose Haven Restaurant
Date of examples: circa 1936 – 1943
Notes: The Moose Haven Restaurant was located at 708 East King Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and opened in the mid-1930s. It is believed to be operated by two brothers, Steve and James Karas. In 1936, in a newspaper blurb Steve was referred to as the proprietor and in a 1942 blurb, James was said to have run off a prowler before calling the police.
According to the note found in the creamer (shown above), in the early 1930s the restaurant had been named Moosehart Lunch and was located at 358 East King Street in Lancaster. In July 1934, there was an advertisement for a waitress at the 708 East King Street location for Moosehart Lunch. Therefore, probably around 1935 or 1936, the restaurant changed names and became the Moose Haven Restaurant, possibly with new owners.
The Moose Haven Restaurant lasted less than 10 years. There is an advertisement in the Lancaster New Era dated Dec. 13, 1944, for sale of the restaurant's contents.
Glo-Tan body creamer with a red stripe around the top and a red pinstripe around the bottom. There is another red pinstripe below the top stripe, and it is broken by the restaurant's circular logo which consists of a drawing of a moose head on a red circle. This circle is surrounded by another circle containing the words "Moose Haven" at the top and the word "Restaurant" at the bottom. There is a ribbon containing the word "Best" on the left and "Foods" on the right.
