Manufacturer: Syracuse China
Pattern Name: Mountains and Flowers
User: Great Northern Railway
Date of bowl: 1947
Notes: This was the last pattern used by Great Northern, from the 40s through the 60s. The pattern was based on the wildflowers found in Glacier National Park and include the dark pink and yellow Columbine, yellow Globeflower and pale pink Springbeauty.
White body with detailed flowers. Larger pieces, such as the dinner plate, have a gray landscape scene in the background depicting mountains and sometimes a portion of a tree. Not all flowers are found on all pieces like this bowl. Some pieces may have only one or two of these flowers, and some variation is found between pieces of the same form and size. The railroad version is always backstamped, either as shown below or with a more detailed backstamp with flowers and poetic paragraph about the beauty of the park. This pattern was also made by Sterling China, although on an ivory body.
The pattern has also been reproduced for use at Izaak Walton Inn and is backstamped by Syracuse China as such.
