Located at 294 West Merrick Road and Central Avenue in Valley Stream, Long Island, Porter House Restaurant opened on May 23, 1946, according to the May 22 issue of Newsday, promoting the "charming gay surroundings" and the "taste of an epicurean-prepared by an artist of the cuisine – with the best of service" as well as a "delightful cocktail lounge."
The last ad found for the restaurant was for Thanksgiving 1966 in Newsday. It is not known when it actually closed.
The plate on Wellsville's San-Tan clay body has a rusty red/brown airbrushed rim, two brown airbrushed cattle with horns, and the interlocking PH logo, designed to look like a cattle brand, also in brown.
