Notes: The six-story Selwyn Hotel opened in February of 1907 with 150 rooms and 75 shared baths. Early postcard views of the dining room show a large space with multiple rows of wainscoted square columns, supporting the high beamed ceiling. Early hotel letterheads show a similar "S" as part of the Selwyn name.
White body plate with a border of alternating mid-rim orange, green, orange lines with curled ends on the orange pin lines. Topmarked with an uppercase, Old English-style "S" in green, surrounded by a laurel wreath with a bow and ribbon beneath.
This is a Syracuse China production sample plate from the collection of Fishs Eddy in New York City. The plate is handmarked Sample #2071 with the name SELWYN.
