Notes: The Sheraton chain, founded by Robert Moore and Ernest Henderson, began in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1937 with the acquisition of the first hotel. By 1965 it expanded to 100 hotels and today has hundreds of lodgings around the world. As of 2009, its parent company is Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

According to the 1948 Hotel Red Book, there were Sheraton Hotels in: Boston, MA; Providence, RI; New York, NY; Newark, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Baltimore, MD; Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; Rochester, NY; Buffalo, NY; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; Brookline, MA; Worcester, MA; Springfield, MA; New Britain, CT; and Annapolis, MD. There were Sheraton Resort Hotels in Augusta, GA; Daytona Beach, FL; and Rangeley, ME.
