Notes: "Already in process, but not in time to reach the 1937 catalogue, was Harry Aitken's 'Shadowtone' technique of decoration. Aitken, who by this time had headed the decorating department for over thirty years, had always worked closely with the design department coordinating patterns with shapes. In 1938, he completed development for use in mass production of 'Shadowtone,' a process of airbrushing (spraying) colors through stencils."
