Notes: Uneva Lake in Colorado is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains near to the town of Frisco. An article in The Herald Democrat of Leadville, Colorado, dated March 30, 1901, has a headline of "Lake Uneva as a Resort has Many Advantages." The story goes on to state: "Lake Uneva is considered to be the most desirable spot in Colorado. It is a very pretty place, surrounded by high mountains … the lake being an exquisite little mountain gem … It is within a very short distance of the railroad, making it more desirable."
"If the plans of the company are carried out, about twenty-five or thirty cottages will be built of the handsome pattern, and Lake Uneva will become one of the most aristocratic resorts in the state. It is not the intention to erect a hotel, but it may be that a boarding house will be erected, for the accommodation of those of [the] cottages who may desire to eat their meals."
Fifteen years later, there is a small ad (shown above) in the Kansas City Times dated Jun. 2, 1916, for the "Uneva Lake Hotel" and to contact a F.J. Murray in Colorado Springs for information.
In May 1917, the ad (shown above) changes to "Uneva Lake Resort" with the same contact for information. In June 1918, the Uneva Lake Resort ad (shown above) changes again and mentions "new cabins, best home cooking, reasonable rates," again with the same contact, F.J. Murray.
The last mention found about the Lake Uneva Resort was in August 1918. When it actually opened and closed is not known.
White body plate with a turquoise stripe at the top of the verge. At the top of the plate is the resort's logo of a rounded square containing a drawing of the lake with surrounding trees and mountains and a cloud-filled sky. On the outside of the square, near the bottom, are coin gold drawings of fir or pine twigs. Under the square and breaking the stripe at the verge are the words "Uneva Lake" in black block letters.
