Manufacturer: Carr China Company
User: White Clock System
Date of shard: circa 1941 – 1952
Notes: This is a shard that was dug from the Carr plant. Based on Internet archives, we believe it was ordered for the White Clock System, with locations in Arlington, N.J. and Bloomfield, N.J., in addition to what might have been its headquarters in Elizabeth, N.J., owned by the late Charles Haffeman.
The coffee cup on the top of the restaurant relates to the match book featuring White Clock Coffee. The business was clearly a copy of White Castle and other similar restaurants of the mid-20th century.
Help wanted ads for White Clock ran in the Baltimore Sun from at least 1941 to 1961 and are probably a general reflection of the time span that the restaurant was in business.
