Notes: According to a small amount of information on the Internet, the White Knight Nickel Sandwich System/Shops were started in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1936, by husband-and-wife Allen David Strahm and Katherine Margaret Strahm.
From "Selling 'em by the Sack: White Castle and the Creation of American Food," by David Gerard Hogan, comes this description: "A later contender in the Wichita hamburger market was the Tulsa (Oklahoma)-based White Knight Nickel Sandwich. The White Knight restaurants had a round turret and the door in the middle of the building."
A 1982 story in the Wichita Eagle, shown above, caused a flurry of interest White Knight when a building in that town was to be auctioned off. Apparently not having received any takers, it was later given away. Even though the photo's cutline refers to "The White Knight building," the story itself seems a bit confused as to the actual restaurant shown. But thanks to the description above, there's no missing that round turret and door in the center of the building!
