Manufacturer: Scammel China
User: Wimodasi Circle
Date of cup and saucer: circa mid-1920s – circa early 1930s
Notes: The Wimodasi Circle, an acronym for WIves, MOthers, DAughters, and SIsters, was a religious organization for women started around the beginning of the 20th century in numerous states across the country but particularly in California and Pennsylvania.
The examples shown above were found in central Pennsylvania near Lewisburg, and that makes it a possibility that they were from the Wimodasi Circle affiliated with the Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewisburg, its oldest Lutheran Church.
From a notice in the Nov. 3, 1932, Lewisburg Journal:
"WIMODASI SUPPER
The 2nd Division of the Wimodasi Circle will serve a Chicken and Waffle Supper at the Lutheran church December 2, 1932, from 5 to 7 o'clock. Price 65c."
Off-white cup and saucer with two brown curlicue pinstripes running around the rim of the saucer and top of the cup. The pinstripes are broken by the words "Wimodasi Circle" in brown Old English letters.
