Notes: This is a Syracuse China production sample plate from the collection of Fishs Eddy in New York City. The plate has an Approved Sample sticker, confirming that it was produced for the "Wood Estate" and is marked Sample #2631 with a date of 3-5-1912.
It is believed that this piece was used by the Wood Hotel located in Quincy, Illinois. With the lack of any associated ephemera, there is a possibility that this pattern was used by a different venue; however, based on the sample sticker customer information and the 1912 production date, the Wood Hotel is the most likely venue.
The Wood Hotel of Quincy, Illinois opened before 1906, at which time, Frank Wood was the owner. In 1912 and 1915, W. H. Wood was the owner, and in 1926, the Estate of W. H. Wood is listed as owner. The three-story Wood Hotel featured a projecting veranda across a five-bay-wide entrance facade, with a railed balcony on the 2nd floor. It had 100 rooms in 1915.
