It has nearly 90,000 staff, some 920,000 volunteers and 12,000 branches worldwide. It was founded in London on 6 June 1844 by George Williams as the Young Men's Christian Association. The organization aims to put Christian values into practice by developing a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

This open sugar has one of the earlier logos of the YMCA. The open book on the logo refers to John 17:21: "That they may all be one … as We are one." The Mind, Spirit and Body represent necessary and eternal parts of man.
