Manufacturer: Scammell China
User: Abraham Lincoln Hotel
Date of candlestick: 1930
Notes: The 18-story, 300 room and bath Abraham Lincoln Hotel at 5th & Washington Streets in Reading, Pennsylvania, opened on May 23, 1930. It was operated by the Robert Meyer Hotel Company. The main dining room, as well as the Colonial Room, Old English Room, coffee shop, and ballroom were located on the second and third floors.
Scammell produced crested Lamberton china for the Abraham Lincoln. The bedroom china service, which includes matchbook holders and candle stands, is crested in coin gold with a "MH" monogram – for Meyer Hotels – within a vertical rectangle. Below the rectangle are the stacked words "Abraham," "Lincoln," "Hotel." This is the same logo that was used on the early brass key tag, shown above.
By 1947, American Hotels Corporation was the hotel's operator. At that time the original china service would have been replaced with the American Hotels floral border with their sign logo pattern.
By 2021, the Abraham Lincoln was being operated as a Wyndham Hotel.
