Notes: This plate, made for the Hotel Jefferson in St. Louis, Mo., commemorates Charles Lindbergh's solo flight of the Atlantic Ocean that he completed on May 21, 1927, in his airplane, The Spirit of St. Louis. He was funded by a consortium of businessmen from St. Louis.

According to "St. Louis: 1875-1940," by Joan M. Thomas, the hotel was "promoted as the 'New Hotel Jefferson – The Aristocrat of St. Louis,' when it opened in 1904 for the [Louisiana Purchase Exposition – known as the St. Louis World's] Fair." (See ad from the 1935 Hotel Red Book, above.)

After going through multiple changes in ownership and names, it is now (2015) offering luxury furnished rentals as The New Jefferson Arms Apartments.

It was named for Thomas Jefferson and designed in a Classical Revival style. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Airbrushed Art Deco plate in magenta or purple and black on a white base has as its primary design an elongated magenta triangle set against what appears to be a fragment of either earth or a cloud with a Classical nude male figure holding an airplane aloft in white – using the negative space within the triangle. The plane is Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis.
