Notes: Multi-millionaire Carl Fisher set forth to create the "most fabulous summer resort ever imagined in the western world" in a place called Montauk, N.Y. The resort was the 200-room English Tudor hotel built atop Signal Hill, The Montauk Manor. Opened in the spring of 1927, its ballrooms were filled with the rich and famous of the day. This National Landmark has been restored to its original splendor and now contains 140 condominium apartments.
The name 'Aztec' is attributed to Mrs. Elizabeth Scammell, daughter-in-law of one of the firm's five founding brothers, who had a set in this pattern for her use at home.
