Notes: The Stanhope is located directly across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City at 995 Fifth Avenue. This 16-story, 400-room hotel was built in 1926. You enter the landmark neo-Italian building and find yourself in an opulent 18th Century French style lobby with antiques, marble floors and handcarved wall mouldings gilded with 24-carat gold leaf.
Major renovations in 1980 and 1986 produced a luxury hotel of 112 rooms and 94 suites, complete with 24-hour room and concierge service. The formal dining room shimmers in a late '20s European atmosphere. Table settings in Ercuis silver, Bacarrat stemware and Ceralene Limoges 24-carat gold rim china gleam in the light from crystal chandeliers and sconces.
The Stanhope logo of the lion atop a castle can be found in the 1962 and 1963 Hotel Red Book.
White body with coin-gold bands and logo, with teal-blue on the rim and also on the logo.
