Notes: The Family Keep Young is a private club located at 545 Powell St., San Francisco, CA, with a rural property called The Family Farm located 35 miles south in Woodside, CA.
The Family was formed in 1901 by a group of 14 original members of the Bohemian Club (reporters, editors and others), who resigned in protest over the Bohemian Club's ban of Hearst newspaper from the premises. The Bohemian Club ostracized the journalists by banning newspapers published by William Randolph Hearst, because Hearst published an Ambrose Bierce poem foretelling the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901.
The original Family clubhouse was located at 228 Post St., San Francisco, CA, but it was destroyed by fire two days after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Once exclusive, the club permits members of all types, calling new members "Babies," regular members "Children" and the club president "Father."
